The Idyllic Town of Culross

An idyllic borough just outside of Edinburgh. With plenty of places to walk your dogs. It is a clear mixture between old and new.
WEAR: Sunglasses, shoes that are good both for the seaside and the town, a cardigan/ hoodie.
PACK: Cash, water, a toy to entertain your dog (whilst at the café).

A car park leads onto the path for beach. Perfectly safe for dogs as you don’t need to pass busy streets. However, with a railway track dividing the beach and the car park you still need to be wary.
An old pier at the beach is beautiful to look at but not safe for our furry friends. With massive wooden slats and a lack of fencing I would recommend it stay a solely human adventure. Our group divided so whilst half our human group went on it, the other half stayed with the dogs.
A rather narrow grassy walking path takes you from the pier to the brilliantly big beach. As we reached the very end of the beach, away from any escape routes, we let our dogs off of the beach. Even the wee rascals. They loved digging and rolling about in the sand. They were content for ages and I would thoroughly recommend going to Culross purely based on this beach.
And yet there was even more for both human and dog adventurers to enjoy. If you go up a long flight of stairs, which is quite a severe walk, you can get a panoramic view across the whole of Culross. It’s glorious and, with a rooster somewhere in the distance, very authentic.
Thankfully we found a café at the end of these flights of stairs. A welcome surprise since it was completely dog-friendly (although you could only sit outside with them). If you’re on a budget it’s not ideal- three soups, a BLT, four coffees, a hot chocolate and four scones with cream and jam costs just over £60- but for a nice treat I would thoroughly recommend their scones. Our dogs had never been to a dog café before, so it was a big experience for them, and a few barks were left off. And yet the staff were extremely nice and friendly! What could have been a stressful situation was made extremely enjoyable.
On the whole this attitude taken by the café sums up the whole of Culross. It’s an extremely dog-friendly area that is tremendously enjoyable for both dog and owner. Plaques detailing the history of the location can be spotted throughout. Adding an interesting dimension throughout a truly wonderful walk.
