Cove is a great place to walk your dogs. With both a countryside and a coastal area, both dogs and owners get the best of both worlds.

KEY POINTS:

Pack: Walking boots, jacket, and maybe a walking stick.

Eat: There are no facilities around the area so take a picnic.

Monarch of the Coast

The best place to park your car is down at Cove Bay Harbour. It gives you direct access to both the beaches (which are on your right) and the countryside area (which is on your left). There aren’t any toilet facilities or cafes nearby so be prepared.

The good thing about Cove Bay is the lack of cars. It means that your dogs are free to roam, however, as Doonies Farm is nearby be wary as there is livestock. There can also quite often be one or two dogs being walked so equally be wary of that.

Cove Bay provides you with a long walk that is relatively empty. With great scenic views and plenty of things to sniff it provides joy for both dogs and owners.

There is a railway track that often has trains running through it, but the railway line is up above on a bridge rather than next to you. This means that you will be safe, but of course if your dog is noise-sensitive it is something to look out for.

Ticks can often be found in the fields and my dogs have had a couple but it’s nothing to be fearful of. Just check them over when you are finished your walk.

The harbour has two beaches, both have pebble stones on them. Jellyfish can sometimes be found on the bigger one but if this happens, we usually retreat to the smaller one. If you climb over rocks at the bigger beach you can reach a Cove. But to get there it is somewhat hazardous.

I would thoroughly recommend going to a walk at Cove. There is plenty to see and it is relatively out of the way. For both hyper dogs and quieter dogs it’s perfect. Sometimes other dogs can be off-lead so this may be an issue but on the whole it’s the perfect place for all.
