Some say one can be a handful, never mind three. Thinking back on why we got the dogs it all seemed to just fall together.

Bertie (The day after we got him)

With Bertie it was different. We were determined to get a dog and we knew we wanted a Bedlington Terrier. They looked cute and were hypoallergenic, my brother was allergic to dogs so this was a must. It was after a couple of months of searching that we finally found one, a cute grey scruffy thing that lived in Huntly.

Alfie. We didn’t intend on getting another one. With one dog it is relatively easy to get someone to look after him if needed and so there was a degree of flexibility. Yet, as part of the Scottish Bedlington Terrier Facebook group, there were photos of a breed of puppies that had just been born.

As always when an adorable group of puppies is it up for sale, you’re eager to get one and give it a loving home. We managed to withhold ourselves though for about a month but as the majority of them got sold one last remained. The breeder was going to keep it as no one seemed to want it. But it seemed a shame. Here we lived in a glorious location where we had the room, and the time, for him. So, as you see although we intend on getting, Alfie, he just kind of fell into our hands.

Henry really was unintended. At the age of one and a half his owners didn’t have the time for him anymore. We knew we had to take him, he was Alfie's brother after all. He came to us with fur that wasn’t well looked after and was just skin and bones. It was a journey getting him to be a normal, healthy and a happy dog but one that is very rewarding.

With three dogs it can be quite complex. You can’t really go on a walk on your own as you don’t have enough hands. You can use a lead splitter, but the dogs don’t really like it. You have to buy a lot of food and finding a seat can often be quite difficult. But it’s worth it.

Seeing how they act with one another is adorable. Bertie was extremely lonely without another dog to keep him company and it means we’re less worried when we’re out. Although there is three times the amount of noise when they bark moments of cuteness make it all worth it and I would recommend getting more than one dog.
